An explanation of super apps

In this video, TechTarget editor Sabrina Polin talks about the application of super apps.

A super app is a mobile or web app that combines multiple services into one platform. So instead of having separate apps for email, banking, shopping, transportation and food delivery, it's all in one app.

Super apps are popular in Asia, Africa and Central America, while less common in North America. This is thought to be because tech giants like Amazon, Facebook and Google became popular before the widespread use of smartphones, so they developed mobile apps after the fact.

Alternatively, in super app markets, most consumers' first experience with the internet was through smartphones, so super apps were designed that way from the start, not retrofitted.

Super apps like WeChat, Alipay, Gojek and Omni, among others, are popular obviously for the convenience, but they also improve customer service, data sharing, customization, and user base.

Gartner predicts more than 50% of the world will be active super app users by 2027. How do you think it will change the way we use the internet and smartphones? Share your thoughts in the comments, and remember to like and subscribe too.
