What is Dell EMC?
Dell EMC is an American multinational technology company that offers products and services across all areas of computing, networking and storage. The company was formed when Dell Inc. acquired EMC Corporation in September 2016, along with EMC subsidiaries, including VMware, RSA Security and Pivotal. At the same time, Dell Technologies was founded to serve as a parent company.
Dell EMC's target market is businesses of all sizes. The merged company combines the two former entities' positions as providers of PCs, servers, storage and virtualization products. Areas of focus include software-defined data center, hybrid cloud, converged infrastructure, mobile computing and security.
Dell announced in October 2015 that it would acquire EMC for the record-breaking sum of $67 billion; the sale became official as of Sept. 7, 2016. Founder and CEO Michael Dell commented that the purchase was intended to "evolve the company into the most relevant areas where IT is moving."
Dell EMC headquarters are in Hopkinton, Mass., and Round Rock, Texas.
