Teladoc, Northwell Partner to Enhance Virtual Care

A new collaboration between Teladoc Health and Northwell Health aims to enhance virtual care and improve patient communication.

Through a new partnership, Teladoc Health and Northwell Health hope to deliver connected virtual care, expand care delivery, and improve clinical teamwork.

Northwell patients will gain access to Teladoc's virtual care platform, enabling a unified consumer experience.

Further, the collaboration will allow Northwell clinicians to leverage Teladoc Health's relationship with Microsoft. Last year, Teladoc's Solo platform and Microsoft Teams were integrated to enable clinicians to securely access EHR clinical data via Teladoc Health Solo within the Teams environment. This will help free Northwell clinicians from administrative tasks, according to the press release.

“Teladoc Health is poised to help Northwell Health evolve its virtual care strategy through continued innovation that naturally extends its infrastructure to meet more patient care needs,” said Andy Puterbaugh, president of hospital and health systems at Teladoc Health, in the press release. “Our single, integrated solution, which spans both consumer and provider-to-provider applications, will add critical capabilities for Northwell Health in support of better health outcomes for all patients.”

Northwell Health is a healthcare provider in New York State, with assets including 22 hospitals, 830 outpatient facilities, and 16,600 affiliated physicians. The Teladoc platform will initially be implemented in 20 Northwell Health hospitals, with plans to expand to several other locations in the future.

“This relationship with Teladoc Health will allow us to optimize our direct-to-consumer telehealth programs to provide the highest quality care and access for all; just as we want and expect for ourselves,” said Martin Doerfler, MD, associate chief medical officer at Northwell, in the press release.

Various collaborative efforts have been taken to implement telehealth to improve patient care.

For example, UBMD Pediatrics is working with Cecelia Health to enhance care for type 1 diabetes using telehealth and remote patient monitoring. Per the partnership, UBMD had provided its patients will remote care access and physiological monitoring, made possible by tools from Cecelia Health, a virtual-first provider that focuses on chronic diseases.

Another recent partnership between the Medical University of South Carolina and Andor Health aims to bolster telehealth services by deploying the ThinkAndor AI Virtual Assistant. Through the platform, MUSC clinicians will be able to collect information that can support decision-making and billing as well as initiate virtual conversations with patients and other providers.

Also, a recent partnership between MemorialCare and TytoCare aims to enhance telehealth services. The partnership gives patients the option of using a TytoCare handheld device to perform remote medical exams and connect with MemorialCare providers.
