Voice applications, analytics suites part of UC evolution

Despite the emergence of messaging as a powerful unified communications tool, voice applications are also enjoying a renaissance of their own.

For instance, Vonage's Nexmo Voice API enables the development of voice applications in the cloud. The API, integrated with Vonage's carrier-grade network, allows developers to add conferencing, call recording and call control to a company's workflow.

Building enterprise-grade voice applications can be complex and expensive, said Nexmo President Tony Jamous. But the Nexmo Voice API enables developers to build enterprise communications customized for any app, website or voice-based communications system.

The voice API enables integrations with existing business applications to boost productivity. It can also integrate emerging technology software -- such as bots, artificial intelligence and deep-data analysis -- into new and existing voice applications.

In addition to voice applications innovation, some UC vendors are rolling out analytics tools to track voice interactions. Plantronics Inc., known for its headsets, has introduced an analytics suite that provides operational, historical and contextual data on voice interactions and headset usage patterns. The software as a service can provide insights into UC systems' performance, user adoption and contact-center quality.

Plantronics' analytics suite and Vonage's voice API were Best of Enterprise Connect finalists last month at the UC conference in Orlando, Fla. In the video above, check out product demos from both vendors.

Other Best of Enterprise Connect finalists included Cisco, Polycom, BroadSoft and Genband. The award finalists usually reflect UC trends, innovation and evolution. Cisco's Spark Board won the top award.
