How does SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding support crossboarding?

Onboarding a new hire is one thing, but what about when an employee simply moves from their role into a different one at the same company?

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding provides functionality to onboard new employees, but it also features capabilities to manage the crossboarding of employees from one role to another.

When transferring to another role in the same company, an employee might have a change in job duties, team, system access, location and training. Administrators do not need employment verification, however, and the company policies, procedures and benefits are often the same.

If the employee moves to a different business unit, subsidiary or even to a new country, then there is a raft of other onboarding activities required. There are likely to be different policies and procedures, new employment eligibility verification, visas or work permits to manage, payroll forms to complete, a new team to meet and more.

In some cases, the employee essentially needs to complete his or her entire onboarding process again. For those employees who go to an entirely new unit -- sometimes moving abroad for the first time -- then crossboarding is critical to the success of the move.

Using SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding features

When customers use SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting and an employee is hired for a new role at the same company, SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding automatically triggers crossboarding. The employee goes through a similar process as they would if they had been hired externally.

In SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding, the functionality for the regular onboarding process is used for crossboarding. Like with onboarding, admins can configure multiple processes to enable different crossboarding scenarios.

The key feature in SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding is the online portal that provides employees with a central place to find all the necessary steps they need to complete, as well as instructions on getting to their new work location and meeting their new team. Employees also get any relevant information for the new role, policy documentation, and can see development goals and trainings that might be important to the new role.

Administrators and managers can manage the crossboarding process and track activities using a workflow system. SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding notifies users when a new action is required as part of the process.
