OPNFV: Nearly 60% of telecom pros exploring NFV
A survey shows more than half of telecom pros are considering NFV; Talari focuses on financing SD-WAN; and Platform9 broadens private cloud management.
A new survey found that nearly 60% of telecommunication professionals are actively exploring network functions virtualization (NFV), reports the Open Platform for NFV Project Inc. (OPNFV). The group cites the survey, which was commissioned by Heavy Reading, as evidence of strong overall interest in NFV. The results also show, however, that these are still early days, with only 19% of respondents' organizations involved in a full NFV deployment, and an additional 26% in proof of concept.
According to the survey, over half of telecom professionals believe that OPNFV will accelerate NFV adoption, and 68% suggested that upstream open source projects, such as OpenStack, will be important to OPNFV's success.

Platform9 offers beta support for OpenStack Neutron
Platform9, a cloud services company based in Sunnyvale, Calif., recently announced beta support for OpenStack Neutron aimed at kernel-based virtual machine and VMware vSphere environments.
Platform9 said that difficulties architecting and integrating Neutron for production at scale delay many private cloud projects. The company promises its new offering will allow IT professionals to effortlessly provision their networks with Neutron, with built-in support for Open vSwitch and VMware's Distributed Virtual Switch.
Platform9's Neutron support will be available in the first half of 2016, with features that include programmatic alerts, notifications and shifting to "infrastructure as code" for cloud-based applications.
Talari offers new SD-WAN financing options
Talari Networks, a software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) vendor based in San Jose, Calif., has begun offering subscription pricing for Talari Aware, its flagship product. The move is aimed at organizations interested in SD-WAN that want to distribute costs over a longer period of time.
"We have seen a growing interest from enterprises that are struggling with lower Capex budgets looking for financial options that allow them to introduce new technology without having to pay the full amount upfront," said Emerick Woods, president and CEO of Talari, in a news release.
Talari has created one-, two- and three-year subscription options, as well as flexible billing, and bundled service and management routes.
