Pain Management Group Taps athenahealth EHR for Care Coordination
A cloud-based EHR implementation across 15 healthcare facilities in Texas is set to enhance care coordination for pain management patients.
Advanced Pain Care (APC), a pain management group in Texas, is implementing a cloud-based EHR implementation from athenahealth that is expected to boost interoperability for enhanced care coordination.
APC will implement the vendor’s cloud-based EHR system across 12 ambulatory locations and three surgery centers, allowing for a single, comprehensive source of patient health data for clinical decision support.
“The effective management of chronic pain is a pervasive issue in the United States and requires a multi-disciplinary approach,” Bob Segert, chairman and chief executive officer of athenahealth, noted in a press release.
“We believe it is essential that multi-specialty groups like Advanced Pain Care have access to technology that enables streamlined workflows and communication, as well as advanced analytics, across their facilities as they leverage insights to provide better care and comfort to patients,” he continued. “We are proud to partner with leading pain management groups like APC.”
Mark Malone, MD, founder and CEO of Advanced Pain Care, emphasized that care coordination is important for pain management.
“Pain can be caused by a variety of reasons, and in order to appropriately treat it, it is essential to coordinate across specialty areas and simplify communication between clinicians and with patients,”
The implementation will grant patients access to self-service tools and enhanced communication resources, which is expected to boost patient engagement for stronger patient-provider relationships and better health outcomes.
Additionally, the implementation will grant APC access to revenue cycle management services, which are expected to improve collections and speed up revenue cycles while keeping overhead costs down.
“We believe athenahealth’s technology will help optimize revenue and financial performance of our operations across specialties, including orthopedics, rheumatology, opioid stewardship, and more, allowing us to focus on providing the highest quality of care to patients,” Malone said.
