"We are incredibly proud of this year's White Coat Award winners, who are among the highest achieving to date," Frank Harvey, Surescripts CEO, noted in a public statement. "It is a tremendous point of pride that they are part of the Surescripts Network Alliance, committed to optimizing the performance of the Surescripts network and leading the transformation of healthcare across the country."

The White Coat Award recognizes health systems, pharmacies, and health IT vendors that help deliver clear and accurate ePrescribing, eliminate time-consuming phone calls and faxes, and improve patient access to medications.

"It is an honor to be recognized again as an industry leader for CenterWell Pharmacy's strong commitment to both quality of care and safety through prescription accuracy," said Michael Taday, senior vice president of CenterWell Pharmacy.

"We take pride in providing a hassle and worry-free experience for both providers and patients as we bring the pharmacy to the front doors of our customers, shipping medications safely and on time," Taday added.

The 2022 Surescripts White Coat Award recognizes winners in three categories:

  • The Highest Accuracy award recognizes the best overall accuracy score.
  • The RxChange Champion award highlights organizations successfully advancing the RxChange transaction.
  • The Structured & Codified Sig Champion award recognizes organizations making the best use of the Structured & Codified Sig field.

The Structured & Codified Sig field standardizes instructions for medication use, which streamlines prescribing and dispensing while reducing the chance for errors. As of the end of 2021, 23 percent of EHRs were using the Structured & Codified Sig field, up from 11 percent in January 2021.

RxChange lets pharmacies communicate with prescribers to resolve prescription concerns within their clinical workflow. In 2021, Surescripts experienced a 40 percent RxChange response rate networkwide, up from 32 percent in 2020.

White Coat Award winners are evaluated based on data provided by Surescripts Sentinel, an automated system that monitors ePrescriptions and delivers insights to pharmacies, health systems, and technology vendors.
