Seneca Healthcare Spent the Past Year Transitioning to Cerner EHR

As Seneca Healthcare transitions to Cerner EHR, Associated Urologists of NC expands its EHR with NextGen, and AssociatesMD sees positive outcomes with eClinicalWorks EHR.

Seneca Healthcare District, a California critical access hospital, has spent the past year transitioning from an antiquated system to Cerner’s EHR.

“We’re excited to implement this upgraded system. The EHR system is designed to offer our community a new, efficient patient portal and enhanced technology and security,” Shawn McKenzie, CEO chief executive officer of Seneca Healthcare District, said in a press release. “Our entire team has been working diligently over the past year to bring this new system online, and we are thankful for their dedication and effort as we reach our go-live date for this conversion. The transition to Cerner EHR is a major milestone for Seneca Healthcare.”

Moving from its outdated system, Seneca Healthcare District aims to provide patients with a secure and streamlined approach to managing their health data electronically. This aligns them with both Plumas District Hospital and Eastern Plumas Health Care, which have also implemented this system.

Although While employee EHR training is in progress, patients may experience slightly longer appointment times as staff members familiarizes themselves with the new EHR.

“We’re putting in extra hours and have additional staff resources to make sure everything goes smoothly, but we do expect a few delays as we get our new system up and running,” said McKenzie.

Upon completing the EHR implementation, patients will benefit from an improved registration and check-in process. They will also have access to a user-friendly patient portal, simplifying the viewing and payment of their bills.

Seneca Healthcare District chose the Cerner CommunityWorks platform due to its tailored design for critical access and community hospitals.

This platform will enhance the availability of patient records and facilitate improved patient record sharing with out-of-network providers.

The adoption of Cerner CommunityWorks will also introduce a fully integrated patient portal, "MySeneca," to hospital and clinic patients. This unified platform will allow patients to view lab results, recap their latest doctor visits, prepare for future appointments, and communicate directly with their healthcare providers. The existing patient portal is anticipated to remain operational for an additional six months.”

The customizable EHR enables us to meet both our provider’s and patient’s needs. NextGen Healthcare has become a trusted partner, and we are looking forward to growing together in the future.”
