Intermountain Announces Epic EHR Implementation for Interoperability

Intermountain has selected an Epic EHR implementation to replace legacy health IT systems and drive interoperability for care coordination.

Intermountain Health has announced that it is implementing an Epic EHR across the organization to drive interoperability and improve the patient experience.

The enterprise EHR implementation is set to be complete by the end of 2025.

“This decision was made with input from thousands of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), nurses, and EHR users from across the organization, and is in support of Intermountain’s efforts to prioritize the caregiver and patient experience and to simplify work,” a health system representative said in a statement emailed to EHRIntelligence.

A Cerner contract that supports the current EHR at Intermountain’s Utah facilities will end in November. Additionally, Intermountain facilities in Idaho and Nevada are in need of replacement of legacy EHR systems, the statement indicated.

The move to a single EHR platform is set to help the health system achieve significant cost savings over time and improve care coordination through enhanced interoperability.

Intermountain chose Epic as the single EHR for the organization due to strong functional offerings and significantly higher EHR satisfaction scores.
