LifePoint Health, Kindred Healthcare Form New Company
Healthcare companies LifePoint Health and Kindred Healthcare to create new healthcare brand, ScionHealth.
LifePoint Health and Kindred Healthcare have announced the formation of a new healthcare company operating under the name ScionHealth. The news was announced after the closing of their previously announced transaction.
Scionhealth will be headquartered in Louisville, and “will consist of 79 hospital campuses in 25 states, including Kindred’s 61 long-term acute care hospitals and 18 of LifePoint’s community hospitals and associated health systems,” according to the announcement.
LifePoint will also over 65 of its remaining hospital campuses, as well as a network of physician practices and outpatient centers, with Kindred’s rehabilitation and behavioral health businesses. This is all slated, along with the launch of ScionHealth, to be completed by the end of the year.
LifePoint believes that all these facilities are aligned well in their operational and strategic approach. LifePoint believes that this will lead to “compelling opportunities for growth.
Scionhealth will have management from both companies on its board. Rob Jay, EVP of IO, at LifePoint is set to serve as CEO at ScionHealth. Regarding the new company, Jay said the “the prospect of launching ScionHealth is exciting for our teams and our communities, and I’m honored to serve as the company’s founding CEO.”
“In forming ScionHealth, we selected a cohesive group of community health systems across the LifePoint and Kindred footprint that would benefit from focused attention, resources and investment. We are looking forward to extending the legacies of LifePoint Health and Kindred Healthcare, honoring Kindred’s important corporate leadership role in Louisville, and creating a new platform for growth and innovation in community healthcare,” Jay continued.
On why both companies decided to restructure, David Dill, president and CEO of LifePoint said, “As our teams began to examine how best to bring together the operations of LifePoint and Kindred, it became increasingly clear that we had the right mix of talent, services and assets to reorganize into two strong companies to better serve our patients and communities.”
Dill continued to further explain how LifePoint and ScionHealth will function now. “In forming two companies with unique areas of focus, LifePoint Health and ScionHealth can improve access to quality care, create more opportunities for our employees, and invest in our communities.”
LifePoint will continue to be headquartered in Nashville, Dill will continue to serve as CEO.
On June 21st, 2021, LifePoint Health announced that they, and Kindred Healthcare had reached an acquisition agreement. The goal of the acquisition, according to the press release, is to “create a leading diversified healthcare delivery network with expanded services, resources and expertise to grow and invest in community healthcare while advancing LifePoint’s mission of Making Communities Healthier.”
LifePoint has been serving their communities since 1999 and with ScionHealth it seems they are making strides to continue this goal.
