Lilly Launches Digital Obesity, Migraine, Diabetes Management Platform

Eli Lilly and Company is launching LillyDirect, a digital healthcare platform used to manage obesity, migraine, and diabetes for patients in the US.

Yesterday, January 4, 2024, Eli Lilly and Company issued a press release announcing the launch of LillyDirect. The platform is a digital healthcare tool for managing and supporting patients with obesity, migraine, and diabetes in the United States.

According to the release, LillyDirect offers multiple services for disease management, support, and medication delivery.

The press release highlights multiple features but primarily focuses on the LillyDirect Pharmacy Solutions feature. Through LillyDirect Pharmacy Solutions, the company’s platform connects users to a third-party online pharmacy fulfillment service. The thought behind this aspect is to make it easier for patients to get their prescribed medications consistently, improving medication adherence.

"A complex US healthcare system adds to the burdens patients face when managing a chronic disease. With LillyDirect, our goal is to relieve some of those burdens by simplifying the patient experience to help improve outcomes," said David A. Ricks, Lilly's chair and CEO. "LillyDirect offers more choices in how and where people access healthcare, including a convenient home delivery option to fill Lilly medicines they have been prescribed."

The company claims that the pharmacy component of the platform will allow patients to obtain certain Lilly medications directly from the company, eliminating the middleman and providing access to affordability solutions more readily.

Beyond the pharmaceutical feature, Eli Lilly notes that patients can access information and educational resources on their health and disease state, offering an additional tool for patients throughout their healthcare journey.

LillyDirect also offers access to telehealth providers that can act as resources for patients in addition to their primary care team. Beyond that, patients can use the platform to search for in-person providers to manage their care.

"We know that people have come to depend on the efficiency and convenience of digital solutions to meet a variety of their everyday needs — healthcare being one of them," said Frank Cunningham, group vice president of global value and access at Lilly. "We launched LillyDirect with the hope that it will offer patients an innovative end-to-end experience to manage their health and access their medicines so they can get back to living their lives."
