Epic Systems Affirms Market Dominance with Best in KLAS Patient Portal

This is the fifth year in a row Epic Systems has won the Best in KLAS for the patient portal market segment, and 12th year in a row for overall software suite.

EHR vendor giant Epic Systems has come in yet again as the top patient portal in the 2022 Best in KLAS rankings, asserting the health IT company’s dominance in the sector.

Epic was also awarded the best overall software suite in this year’s KLAS rankings, coming in at the top for the 12th year in a row, KLAS said. This is the fifth year in a row Epic Systems has hauled in the Best in KLAS title for the patient portal category.

“Each year, thousands of healthcare professionals across the globe take the time to share their voice with KLAS. They know that sharing their perspective helps vendors to improve and helps their peers make better decisions,” David Gale, the president of KLAS Research, said in a statement emailed to journalists.

“These conversations are a constant reminder to me of how necessary accurate, honest, and impartial reporting is in the healthcare industry,” Gale added. “The Best in KLAS report and the awards it contains set the standard of excellence for software and services firms. Vendors who win the title of Best in KLAS should celebrate and remember that providers now accept only the best from their products and services. The Best in KLAS award serves as a signal to provider and payer organizations that they should expect excellence from the winning vendors.”

Epic Systems won the Best in KLAS patient portal with an overall score of 89.4 out of 100, which is more than 10 points higher than the average. The second-place winner, athenahealth, scored 79.9. Greenway Health came in third with a 77.9 and Cerner in fourth with a 77.6. NextGen Healthcare (67.1) and Allscripts (60.2) came in fifth and sixth, respectively.

KLAS also ranked a number of patient engagement technology solutions that expand beyond the scope of the patient portal. In the patient outreach domain, which ranked vendors that provide patient communication services, Well Health came in the number one spot, followed by PatientBond, Twistle by Health Catalyst, and CipherHealth.

And for patient experience improvement, which looked at companies that provide patient experience surveying and improvement services, KLAS ranked Press Ganey the highest. Qualtrics came in second, followed by NRC Health.

pCare, a patient education platform, took the top spot in its market segment, followed by Epic Systems, TeleHealth Services, SONIFI HEALTH, and Get Well rounding out the patient education category.

Cipher Health took the lead in the patient rounding segment, followed by Get Well.

In the customer relationship management (CRM) category, KLAS only had enough data to rank one vendor, Salesforce, although it did mention a few other solutions that it could not rank.

And finally, in the social determinants of health realm, KLAS rated findhelp from Aunt Bertha as the top SDOH referral network system. The vendor was followed up by Unite Us.
