Cardinal Contracting Data Breach Includes Medical Information

Cardinal Contracting is notifying 4,519 people nationwide who have been impacted by a recent data breach that exposed personal data, including medical information. 

Cardinal Contracting began notifying the individuals on July 13th about the data breach, according to a media release from the company.  

The contracting company, a rigging and millwright contractor with branches in Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky, said the information impacted by this event “varied by individual but may include certain individuals' names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial information, health insurance information, and medical information.” 

The company stated it recently “became aware of suspicious activity related to certain Cardinal Contracting email accounts” and “launched an investigation, with the assistance of third-party forensic specialists, to determine the nature and scope of the activity.”  

Investigators determined there was unauthorized access to the email accounts between September 9 to December 8, 2020.  

“On June 22, 2021, Cardinal Contracting's review determined that the affected email accounts contained certain information related to certain individuals,” the company stated.  

Cardinal noted that it is providing this information “in an abundance of caution, as the investigation cannot confirm that information relating to specific individuals was actually accessed,” the company stated. 

“The confidentiality, privacy, and security of information is one of Cardinal Contracting's highest priorities and Cardinal Contracting takes this matter seriously.” 

Cardinal Contracting is offering individuals access to free credit monitoring and identity protection services.
