KLAS: This Year’s Top Healthcare IoT Security Vendors

IoT security tools can help healthcare organizations manage risk and gain visibility into their ever-expanding network of connected devices.

Healthcare organizations are increasingly connecting devices to their networks to enable efficiency and aid in patient care. However, increased device connectivity exposes organizations to additional security and privacy risks, prompting many to implement IoT security solutions that enable greater connected device visibility and enhanced security.

A new report from KLAS Research explored the current state of the healthcare IoT security vendor market to assess how well these tools are meeting adopter expectations amid increased merger and acquisition activity. Medigate by Claroty, Armis, and Ordr are frontrunners in the IoT security space, the report found.

KLAS researchers examined responses from healthcare professionals about the IoT security solutions and services their organizations use and how they measure up to six customer experience pillars – culture, operations, loyalty, product, relationship, and value.

“Regardless of vendor, most customers are satisfied with their healthcare IoT security solution, but the performance gaps between vendors have widened over time,” the report noted.

Medigate, the 2023 Best in KLAS winner for healthcare IoT Security, achieved a 95.4 overall performance score (out of 100) and maintained high ratings in the areas of vendor engagement and partnership. Medigate was acquired by Claroty in 2022, and ratings have remained strong, with some users citing that they did not notice th acquisition because it went so smoothly.

“Some respondents mention they are looking forward to the non–medical device capabilities (e.g., OT visibility) the Claroty acquisition will bring,” the report noted.

Specifically, customers highlighted Medigate by Claroty’s intuitive system and ease of use. A few respondents noted integration gaps and a desire for more flexibility with reports. Even so, the company received scores of A and A+ across the board.

Armis received an overall performance score of 92.2. Deep adopters of Armis reported that the vendor has continually improved its product over time, even amid periods of rapid growth.

“We have become sensitive to and aware of the hazards surrounding cybersecurity and the risk of penetration of personal health information via different medical devices and applications,” one director said.

“The Armis application is robust and can see all network-connected devices. It is really incredible to see the amount of horsepower that the Armis platform brings to the table for us. The product really is a great tool.”

Ordr achieved an overall performance score of 90.2. Customers highlighted the fact that Ordr has worked to increase integration capabilities with medical devices and other systems. The company also offers Masterclass trainings, which customers cited as helpful but noted that they can be challenging for non-cyber staff.

Palo Alto Networks also experienced M&A activity in recent years, having acquired Zingbox in 2019. Zingbox customers reported feeling less satisfied with support and communication from Palo Alto Networks following the acquisition. The company received an overall performance rating of 79.2, with customers seeking improved communication and more responsive support.

“One Palo Alto Networks deep adopter reports heavily investing in the vendor’s security stack to gain broader security coverage,” the KLAS report stated. “In general, customers want the vendor to provide more proactive outreach, noting that it is difficult to gain the large cross-industry vendor’s attention quickly.”

Overall, the majority of customers surveyed reported high levels of satisfaction with various vendors. As connected device networks get more complex, it appears that strong vendor relationships and consistent communication go a long way in maintaining customer satisfaction in the healthcare IoT security space.
