Mitchell Klein
Executive Director, Z-Wave Alliance
Mitchell Klein is a leader in smart home and IoT, dedicating his career to educating the industry, creating and implementing strategic business programs and leading companies that helped bring smart home and custom installation into the mainstream. Mitch's career has included systems integration management to business strategy and development, but above all he is a 30+ year industry veteran in IoT, consumer electronics, home automation and the integrator market.
Mitch joined the Z-Wave Alliance as executive director in September 2015 and has developed and led several key Alliance initiatives including the creation of the Certified Installer Toolkit (CIT), a valuable testing tool for installers integrating a Z-Wave network. The Z-Wave CIT was named one of the top innovations at CEDIA 2017 and is the first tool of its kind to troubleshoot across brands. Under his management, the Alliance has grown to over 700 global members with over 2,400 certified products, representing an over 60% growth since 2016, including the addition of several industry leaders to the Alliance Board of Directors -- Huawei, Leedarson, Assa Abloy and Fibaro.
Prior to his role as executive director, Mitch served as the director of business development for Universal Remote Control for eight years where he was a key member of the senior team that grew URC from a remote control company to a smart home integration system supplier to the CEDIA channel. Mitchell also served as the CEO at the award-winning integration firm Media Systems for 14 years, co-founded industry consulting firm StayTuned LLC and launched CEDIA's certification program, its first regional events and media tours as its two-term president. In these positions, he elevated each company by developing unique approaches to drive sales, launch products and coordinate teams across departments.
Mitchell is a CEDIA Fellow and committee chair and has been a contributor to trade and technology publications, a guest on numerous video podcasts like AVNation and Tech Republic. He is a regular presenter and panelist at key industry events including CES, CEDIA, ISE, ISC West, InfoComm, NSCA, CEA, TecHomeX, CABA Forum, Parks Connections Summit and many more.
Mitchell holds a bachelor of science in business management with a minor in economics from State University of New York College at Oswego and has been recognized with over 22 awards including the 2011, 2012 and 2013 CEPro Quest for Quality Platinum Award Winner for Best Training, the inaugural CEPro Dealer of the year (1996) and the 2003 Dealer of the Year -- CEA/TechHome Mark of Excellence Award. Mitchell is a CEDIA certified Installer.
